Sentencing is the process of using a Records Authority, General Disposal Authority or a NAP policy and procedure to decide whether to retain, destroy or transfer a record.
The National Archives publication Sentencing: using records authorities to decide whether to keep, transfer or destroy records will help you plan and complete a sentencing project. We also have a decision tree to help determine which tool should be used to sentence records.
Once you have sentenced records, you should also look at the information on this website about transferring records and destroying Commonwealth records.
