On their first tour of Australia, the Sadlers' Wells Royal Ballet season at Albert Hall in August 1958 included the ballet First Love, based on the Turgenev story, with music by Johann Strauss.
Performing the role of the young Vladimir Petrovich was Canberra’s Alan Alder, then soloist with Sadlers' Wells and later principal artist with the Australian Ballet.
