
Certificates Exempting from Dictation Test (CEDTs) allowed Chinese Australians to return to Australia without having to sit the Dictation Test. They replaced Certificates of Domicile. Dempsey Hong, age 18, travelled to China with his two sisters in 1919 and used this certificate to return three years later. The Hong family were of mixed Aboriginal-Chinese heritage.
