On 27 May 2008, the National Archives released the records of the Royal Commission on Intelligence and Security (RCIS), also known as the Hope Royal Commission.
The Royal Commission was established by letters patent on 21 August 1974, and undertook its work between 1974 and 1977. The Royal Commission was headed by the Hon. Mr Justice Robert Hope and inquired into the history, administrative structures and functions of Australia’s security and intelligence services.
